can someone please just take that mans damn draw reins away. like I have nothing against jumping in them if they’re attached to the sides of the girth and you’re doing like 2ft, but in the Olympics for god’s sake? you should be a competent enough rider to get your horse around without draw reins at that level.

^

^^
no reason for this. no training wheels in cycling, this is the same idea as far as I’m concerned… and WTF is up with the polos?? I mean, all the money in the world and you can’t hire someone to put these on right?

yes its nice you are riding in a loose ring but really jumping this high in draw reins??  Besides I thought it was not allowed?  And yeah seriously you are at the fucking Olympics and you/your groom doesnt know how to polo wrap??????

fo shizzle

the Saudi Arabian team basically bought their way into the podium, the Prince, the grandson of the king of Saudi Arabia is on this team, so they get to spend millions of dollars on horses. They spent over $40 million on the horses in this team.
Still doesnt mean you can ride well though.

Uh seriously guys? I’ve definitely seen pictures of McLain Ward and other American grand prix riders (including those who have gone to the Olympics) who warm up in draw reins. Its not at all uncommon at the grand prix level.
Also, I’m sorry but the Saudi team had a VERY strong showing. And I don’t care if you spend 100 million on your mounts, you don’t get around an Olympic course nicely without being a good rider. Its not like our Olympic riders are strapped for cash either, many of them (specifically Beezie Madden) have some very generous benefactors who invest copious sums of money into mounts.

ETA: Oh wow and this is the AWARDS ceremony people. I just saw this pic on COTH and its from the medal ceremony!!! A ton of horses go in draw reins for the prize ceremony. In fact Sapphire was notorious for it, and McLain does that with a lot of his mounts.
